Sad Month
In September there were 4 teen suicides in the headlines. All of these suicides were related to bullying and all of these boys were teased about being gay. I can't stress to you all how important it is for us to be teaching our children to LOVE EVERYONE!!! Why are we teaching them that it's ok to make fun of someone because they are different then us. Can you imagine what it must be like for these teens who know that they are different, who know that what they might be is something that is so hated by other people. I can't imagine how alone that must make them feel. The first was Billy Lucas 15, then Seth Walsh 13, then Asher Brown 13, and finally Tyler Clementi 18. Tyler was unknowingly videotaped by his roomate while he had an encounter with another male. The video had been streamed live on the internet. Tyler had not yet come out to his parents or friends. Tyler posted on Facebook that he was going to jump off the George Washington Bridge and that he was sorry. He drove his car up to the bridge, parked it and walked up and jumped off to his death. How is it that kids find this funny. What is funny about making someone feel like they want to die. I just don't get it!!! Please keep these boys' families in your prayers this week.

If you know of any books that talk about diversity (race, sexual orientation, gender, etc) for small kids, I'm all ears. I know I should be talking about some of this stuff with my 3 yr old now, but I'm not really sure how...I could always break out "Free to Be You & Me..."
I have been so sad for these families. I haven't been signed on here for a while but I think you are doing wonderful work, Kara.
