Birthday Girl!!

We watched the Happy Birthday song in Korean on Youtube.

Then we ate Bulgogi and Rice.

She loves it when I do fish face to her.

Fish Face

Happy Birthday Bee

She ate rice and cake!!

And she liked it.

Yum Yum

She has a giant piece of cake in her hand.

Thank you all for the huge support and lots of advice. You have given me so many things to try that I don't feel worried anymore. We had a huge milestone tonight. We had a little party for Bee since she is 13 months today. We made bulgogi and rice and Riley and I made her a cake. She sat with me and was so good. She loved playing in the rice, in fact I think there was more on our dog's back than actually got eaten. She tried the rice all by herself. I almost cried. Then we had cake and I took some of the icing on my finger and put it in her mouth. She then looked at me and opened her mouth right up for more!!! What a step!

It is Thursday now and I am continuing to write this post because I didn't get to finish it last night because.....
SHE SLEPT THE WHOLE NIGHT ON ME!!!! We slept until 8 :40am!!! Praise GOD!!!!!! What a great day it was yesterday. The best part is she recognizes me now. She looks up at me and smiles and when I look at her now, I don't see a stranger, I see my daughter now!!! GOD IS GOOD!!!

Yay! I prayed for you with another person in the church chapel yesterday evening! So sorry to hear about that nasty comment. I think you are amazing and fortunate to have so many people to support you and others who will benefit from your experiences also. I do think you should try getting some extra help with Riley, I wish I could help. Maybe next weekend we can take him out.

So glad to hear that things are improving. Don't get too worried if it is two steps forward one step back.

Wonderful news! The small steps are so big at this stage, continue rejoicing in them. Each day you will continue to see small progress...some days you may take a step back but then the next day you may take two more steps forward. I also love her fishy face...so sweet.

I have been following your blog for a while. Don't remember how I came across it. But 1st off, Congratulations! Little Bee is beautiful!
I know you have gotten some great advice here on your blog. But I wanted to just share/re-affirm from our experience. Sleep is one of the hardest adjustments. Our son came home 6 months ago. The 1st week he would only sleep with us holding him, while standing or walking. Then I spent about a month on the floor with him in his room. He too was unwilling to sleep with us in our bed eventhough that is what he was used to in Korea. Our social worker was very helpful and gave good advice and put my mind at ease about so many things. She said when it came to sleep you just have to experiment every child is different and it's ok to try different things. Within about 2 months he was sleeping in his crib happily and through the night. It is amazing what a little time & love can do. He was 18 months when we brought him home so didn't have the eating issues. But I did notice that during the grieving periods, especially at night he seemed to act like an infant. This is normal too. We all had to go through some adjustments, but now 6 months in. It is amazing how well he & we are doing! Hang in there! Enjoy the happy moments and breathe through the tougher ones.

Glad to hear that things are improving. I had to giggle a bit that what she wants to eat is icing and rice. My kind of girl! :)

I have tears in my eyes reading your post! What an answer to prayer - and though there will be hills and valleys they overall journey will go up from here! :) Praise God!

Oh Kara, I'm so happy for you! Maybe that light switch I spoke about the other day actually flipped. It was that way with MeeNa, hopefully it will be with Bee. God is Good! I think you associating a confidence with her and her growth will help her adjust well. She'll feel like such a big girl around you all. I pray tonight goes well again! 8:40, really? I'm jealous. My kids get up at the crack of dawn between 5 and 6. Now why can't they do that during school session? hee hee

Happy that she slept all night for you. Baby steps....p.s. I would like to thank you for being so honest in your blogs about how things are going. I think that we can never be 100% prepared for the exhausting changes adopting a one year old brings, but it makes me feel connected and also I think it has been really helpful even for my husband to read your experiences so he knows more what to expect.
