Waiting Wednesday #14

Well , we just got back from the vet and Sammy's mass was cancer but it was contained. So we don't have to do anything further. I will be changing his diet. I will be switching him to a raw food diet and adding cod liver oil and probiotics. He was so scared when we got to the vet's office this morning he was shaking. When we left he jumped all the way into the Durango because he wanted to get the heck out of there ! Riley decided he wanted to have a lemonade stand yesterday. Keep in mind we live on a dead end street and we are the only ones who live on the street, so we didn't have very many customers. He made his own sign and charged $10 a cup. I guess because it was organic! :) Then he practiced counting to one hundred and told me that's how much he sold. Today he is having the sale again and the $10 price includes a bonus organic lollipop. He is so into it , it's really cute. Still nothing from our agency. I have to say that it is frustrating that our program manager has been back now 3 days and she hasn't sent out any info. She has to know that we are all waiting on pins and needles. And I'm hoping that she has already mailed out pictures to everyone. I would be kind of upset if she spent a week at Eastern and didn't bring pictures home for her clients. I'm trying to be positive , but I think that one would make me a little mad. So I will continue to update on any happy news I hear.

My list for today is about "Going Green". We all know how to recycle but recycling really is just PC, it's expensive and wastes energy. We really should be reusing as much as we can instead of throwing the plastic in the recycle can. So here are a 10 ways that I reuse and ways that I have changed our habits to "go green" at home.
Riley and his lemonade sign
Yes, that says $10 upside down
I guess he figures it's organic so he can charge a lot.

10 WAYS WE "GO GREEN" AT HOME

.
1. Use bamboo and get rid of the plastic and melamine dishes.
This is one that I am getting ready to implement.

2. Reuse and old tablecloth from Goodwill.
I have found a goldmine at Goodwill.
I have been making curtains out of old tablecloths, pillow cases,
and sheets. It is awesome cheap fabric.

3. Reuse some old crib slats for a trellis in your garden.
These came from our neighbors trash.
What a bargain!

4. Get rid of plastic bags for snacks.
We have not bought plastic bags in almost 9 months!
I made my own bags for snacks and use these wax bags for
sandwiches.

5. Switch outplastic cups for glass mugs .
These bass glass mugs sell for $15 for a case of 12.
This is another one that I am getting ready to implement.
For a kiddie cup, use a reg lid for the canning jars and poke a hole in it.
Use it with a straw

6. Switch to cotton bags for produce.
This one was hard for me because I couldn't
figure out what would keep my lettuce good.
These work AWESOME!
You could actually make your own.
Just wash lettuce, drain and put in the bag.

7. Remember these that I made last year?
These are milk and oj cartons that I made into snack containers
using just velcro.

8. Buy your milk in glass containers.
We reuse ours for everything.

9. Buy everything you can in glass containers instead or plastic.
I have tons of jars and I buy my dried fruits
and nuts in bulk and store them in jars.

10. Use cloth diapers, or make your own.

Great ways and ideas of going green. I'm trying to implement some a little at a time. LOVED your ideas!

I haven't heard anything either, and it's driving me crazy. Our agency left this week for Korea and China and I am hoping the same thing you are. But who knows? Hoping one of us hears something soon. :)

What a great list! I'm taking notes...
Hope you get some news soon! I hate when things take longer than they should. If only everyone operated on our schedules! :)
Poor Sammy... I understand his feelings about the doctor!

Poor Sammy - let's hope he's done with the vet for a little while.

I LOVE that your son is charging $10 for a lemonade - hee hee! Must be some good stuff :)

Your list is awesome - so many good ideas.

I am really hoping you hear something from your social worker. Maybe she is trying to figure out how to tell folks (gently) about the 11 month wait to travel that is coming up next year ... sigh.

Great list, Kara! I also love Riley's $10 lemonade stand - that's so cute!!

I'm so sorry there hasn't been any news from the agency yet. I remember hearing that something should be coming out by the end of the week? I really hope you hear some good news!

I also hope that Sammy is feeling better and that the new diet helps him stay healthy.
