look at my poor baby :(
Yesterday was not a good day. I woke up with back pain like I pulled a muscle or something. It hurt so bad to breathe. On top of that I had to take my dog, Sammy, to the vet for surgery. He had this thing on his ear that tripled in size over 3 weeks. The vet thought it was just a cyst and I almost didn't do the surgery because I am a nurse and figured I could handle it if and when it burst. However I am glad that I took him to have it removed. The doctor called me and said that he was surprised to find that it was a solid mass surrounded by a sac of fluid. He is sending it to pathology, but it's probably you-know-what . It was being fed by a cluster of blood vessels which is probably why it grew so fast. My poor baby has to wear one of those elizabethan collars which if anyone has seen the movie "Up" it is aka "the cone of shame". Every time Sammy tried to take it off last night Riley would say," Mommy, Sammy's trying to take off his cone of shame!!!". It is so sad, he walks around and he'll bump into the wall or something and just stand there for like 5 minutes until I move him. He had trouble sleeping last night , so this morning I took it off. I will keep it off until I leave or until I see him trying to get at his stitches. He was finally allowed to eat this morning so I'm sure he feels much better. But of course the mommy in me has been thinking about what I will do if it comes back cancer. I can't ever see myself putting my baby through chemo or radiation. He is happy and I would never want him to live the rest of his life nauseated and sick and feeling lousy from the toxic chemicals. I have looked into diets to treat cancer in dogs and interestingly they are pretty the same to diets that people use to "treat " cancer. Some of you may have heard of Kris Carr, she did a documentary of her journey with cancer. She tried just about everything, her cancer though was inoperable and could not be treated with chemo or radiation, so she had no choice but to try alternatives. What ended up working was a change in her diet to a raw vegan diet. It has kept her tumors from growing for a few years now. While I was researching on the internet last night I found that dogs were never meant to eat grains , yet it is the primary ingredient in commercial dog foods and it is known to feed cancerous tumors. I am still learning and researching but I think that I will try switching Sammy's diet to a grain free diet that includes meat, fish oil, and veggies. So on to the list: ( I am seriously running out of ideas, if anyone has any let me know please :)
My 10 favorite things about my Binky (Riley)
1. I love waking up to my little boy coming in with breakfast for me that he made himself.
2. I love when I am checking my email and he brings me more coffee.
3. I love it when he hears someone say "GOD" on a song or a movie he gets really excited.
4. I love how he thinks every toy belongs in the bathtub.
5. I love how he knows his nickname is "Captain Distructo" ( it's not a joke, he really is)
6. I love how he thinks it is cool to eat healthy organic food.
7. I love that he enjoys sharing things with others.
8. I love it when he asks me if GOD is sitting next to him in the back seat and when I tell him yes, he says,"Good , that's just where I want him"
9. I love that everytime he gets a balloon from Publix, he lets it go and says he is sending it to GOD so he will send his sister home to be with us.
10. I love that when I am sad and scared for Sammy he gives me a hug and pats my back and says, " It's ok Mommy, Sammy will be ok." .
I Love you so much baby!!

love #9!!!
that's wild about grains for dogs! i'll have to see what is in sage's food. we don't give her food with a lot of filler - makes her poop too big! so i know she absorbs most of it.
i'll be praying for you and for Sammy!
So sweet - Riley sounds like such a sweetheart. I love the backseat and the balloon!
So sorry about Sammy. Big hugs. I hope the vet has good news for you. Prayers for you and your family.
Poor Sammy :(
I'm so glad you wrote about animals' diets. The same thing is true for cats - cereal companies were the ones who came up with making dry kibble for animals, and so put corn and other grains in it, which is SO unhealthy for our carnivore friends.
Good luck.
Oh Kara, you've had a rough run with your pets lately. I hope everything turns out OK.
I love hearing you describe what you love about Riley. He is so sweet and it sounds like you are very close. That's wonderful.
The one about the toys in the bathtub reminds me of Taye! Hope you and Sammy feel better soon!
I'm so sorry about Sammy. :( I hope the results end up being ok.
Riley is such a sweet little boy. You both take such good care of each other!
Poor Sammy - I'm really hoping everything is OK with him. Thanks for the info on dog food, I need to check the ingredients in our pets' food.
Your list about Riley is so sweet! Both the list itself and your little boy. What a darling son you have :)
