Sorry, I couldn't stay away any longer. I guess I'm weak. I can't believe we are almost at the 3 month mark again waiting for a referral. I really thought that we would still have a baby home by Christmas, but with wait times getting longer it's almost guaranteed not to happen. Our agency has not received a girl referral since May 5th. Can you believe it? I don't know what is going on but I just hope that it ends soon.
So much has happened and there has been so much that I have wanted to say over these 2 months so brace yourself for a long post. First off I looked at my hit counter last night and saw 11,900 people. I swear that just the other day it only said 2000. So I am taking a poll to see how many people actually read my blog on a regular basis. So please take a minute and vote before you leave. My husband thought maybe it was from search engines pulling up my blog and then I realized that the whole story with Katherine Heigel adopting may have made searches for Korean adoption go crazy.
My husband and I have joined a green team at our church. Our goal is to get our church to be self sustainable within 5 years. My husband is an LEED accredited professional and he is a contractor so he is doing the building part of it. He is looking into getting us a grant to put the church on solar power and other projects for the church. He has switched out most of the light bulbs in the sanctuary to the energy efficient ones and we are switching to all recycled products. I am in charge of a few things including starting a community garden, offering Green Living classes where we will be showing films on organic farming, genetically engineered foods, and others, as well as teaching people how to make better and healthier choices for their families and the environment. We also hope to start a farmers market and hold a Green Festival with local businesses. That's a lot, I know, but I have such a passion for it.
I am homeschooling Riley and using an awesome curriculum that is completely nature based . It is called Little Acorn Learners and we love it. We bake a couple times a week , do lots of crafts, and take lots of nature walks. And then we read books that go along with our themes every week. This week was about family and birds, so we made birdseed biscuits(which fell apart when it rained and then the ants had a party), and we painted a big tree and Riley cut our magazine pics of birds and glued them in the tree. We also went on a nature walk out at the Corkscrew swamps and he really enjoyed that.
I also started taking an organic gardening class that is 15-17 weeks long and will give me certification when I complete it in December. Our growing season starts Oct 15 here in South Florida and goes until May. I am so excited about this class because it is being taught at a farm around the corner and by one of my mentors. This man was the first organic gardner is Southwest Florida and he knows everything. I literally could sit and listen to him talk for hours. It is also hands on, we are growing veggies on his farm. And I am really excited about that because the last class I took we didn't grow anything until after the class was over and then I had no one to ask questions to. This farm also has started a Community Supported Agriculture share program. They are selling shares of his farm for $30/week starting Jan 9th. For 20 weeks Riley and I will be able to drive out to the farm and pick up a box of all organic fruits and vegetables. We don't have any say in what's in the box, it will be what is harvesting that week. I am SO excited about this. This will save a lot of money because as you know organic veggies are very expensive and I spend well over $30/week on them. If you are interested in a program like this you can log onto http://www.localharvest.org/ and search for farms, CSA programs, Co ops, and Farmer's markets in your area. It is worth the cost to feed your family pesticide free food.
So that is a lot I know and believe it or not I still have more but I will leave it for tomorrow. Thank you all for continually checking back, please vote up top and I hope to be posting really good news soon.
